IMMIGRANTS OF MISIONES
Deeper insight into the Misiones immigration
This excursion is especially interesting for our central and eastern European visitors who would like to get deeper insight into the latest immigration history of Misiones Province.
The day tour starts in the Iberá Wetlands or Posadas and ends at the Iguazú Falls (or vice versa). You will visit a Yerba Mate Cooperative founded by a Swiss Immigrant Colony in 1930. They still produce the Argentine national beverage and most of their 60 members have Swiss German or Swiss French roots.
Later along the drive you will make a break at the immigrant town Montecarlo where you will visit an impressive private orchid collection / farm, run by a German immigrant family whose members still speak German as their first language (besides Spanish and the native language Guaraní).
If you tell us your personal interest on behalf of your immigrant country, we will look for a special program to match your ideas.
The immigrants who have settled in Misiones have arrived from Ukraine, Poland, Czechia, Russia, Germany, France, Switzerland, Denmark, etc.
The ideal starting point for excursions into the Iberá marshlands is the village of Colonia Carlos Pellegrini. At the entrance of the village that counts 500 inhabitants, you can easily find Irupé Lodge – named after a rare aquatic plant of the wetlands. The panoramic view of our park and the lake right out front, crowded with colourful birds, invites you to explore Argentina’s nature. The Lodge construction on poles ensures a natural and cosy atmosphere for unforgettably relaxing days. Moreover, the country-style designed and original rooms will help to make your holidays peaceful and exclusive.Let’s discover the Iberá Wetlands and Iguazú Falls with Irupé Lodge & Tours.
